Questions:

Answers:
Q: How much will Textic Talklets cost for my website?
Because Talklets is delivered as a service and not as an application that your site visitors have to install, there is a relationship between site traffic and cost as we have to provide and support a continuous service via our network infrastructure. Small sites with modest traffic levels often cost as little as £25 to £50 per month based on an annual contract, but larger, busier sites generally cost into four figures+ per annum. We offer discounts for multi-year deals [top]

Q: I am a website owner – how do I get Talklets on my site?
Talklets for website owners will enable you to offer a talk-enabled website to all your visitors. Talklets is easy to set up and requires minimal integration as it is a server-based system. Fill in the trial request form and we will get back in touch once we have prepared a suitable test page, probably using a selected page from your site. If you wish to go ahead with integration once we have quoted a price, we will liaise regarding your preferred method of integration and send you the insertion code, with instructions for installation. Following satisfactory testing, we will set the site live. [top]

Q: I am a website owner – how do I get Talklets working on my site?
Once your account is established we will give you a simple JavaScript tag which has to be added to pages to which you wish add talk enablement. This tag is easily added to static html or to dynamic templates. If you do not have the resources to do this yourself, we can undertake this for you at a small extra charge. We can also provide a tag to deploy a show/hide button to allow users to chose whether they see the Talklets toolbar or not. [top]

Q: Does Talklets translate web pages?
Currently it does translate, but it can read sites in many languages assuming the site is written in that language to start with. [top]

Q: Will Talklets work on my machine?
If you have a machine and connectivity that meets the recommended technical specification (see using Talklets) we are confident that Talklets will work for you. If you have problems, please contact us with details of the problem you are having. [top]

Q: Can you create a unique voice just for my website?
Yes indeed, but at the moment it is very expensive and this will probably be realistic only for major on-line brands with big budgets. It will cost upwards of £20,000 to 'build' a voice from scratch as it is such a complex and time-consuming task to produce a genuine full-domain voice font - ie one that will read any free text with proper intonation and inflection. You or your nominated voice talent will also have to spend at least a week in a recording studio to provide the raw material for the synthesis of the voice components. [top]

Q: Can I just add a single speech button to make my site talk?
Yes, you can use any link from text or from a suitable icon or graphic to access the speech controls once your site is enabled. See our page on the Textic Toolbox to see some of the things that are possible with our highly flexible approach to speech enablement. [top]

Q: Can I adjust the pronunciation of certain words on my website?
Yes, we can provide a dictionary editing facility to allow you to tune unusual or particularly difficult words. [top]

Q: The Talklets control bar is displayed and the text I point to is highlighted but I can’t hear anything
Check that you are connected to the Internet and check that your speakers or headphones are connected and working. Refresh the page you are on or navigate to an alternative page and try again. If necessary, close your browser and open it again and (for Individual users) log off from your Talklets account and log in again. [top]

Q: How do I ‘unzoom’ the text zoom control?
If you are using Talklets with Internet Explorer and thus have the zoom control, either click the minus symbol on the zoom button to step back, or click the ‘dot’ in between the two zoom buttons to immediately restore the default view. [top]

Q: Does Talklets you read PDF documents?
Currently Talklets does not function on PDF documents but we have a solution for deployment shortly as part of release 3.0 later in 2008. At the moment, one of the most effective methods of getting audio from a PDF document is to use the integrated Adobe Text Reader which comes as part of the recent release of Adobe Acrobat Reader. [top]

Q: Does Talklets read Flash-based content?
Using the simple API, Talklets can be made to read text content in Flash movies. The process is simple enough from a technical perspective but cannot be reverse engineered once the movie has been compiled so you will need to build the Flash with speech in mind. [top]
